HCC offers an associate's degree in criminal justice with several concentrations including law enforcement. Classes are offered in person or online, day, evening, and weekends. The police academy faculty teach academic classes online. Bruce Johnson teaches academic classes in person at the Northline Campus.

How many hours may a police officer earn for the Basic Peace Officer Course? 14 credit hours. You must complete 12 hours at HCC, complete your degree at HCC, and apply for graduation from HCC before the credit is applied to your transcript.
How many hours may I earn by departmental examination? Hours may no longer be earned by department exam. During Fall 2011, police officers became eligible for a tuition waiver for criminal justice courses.
How do I get a legislative waiver? You will need an HCC peace officer exemption form and a letter from your chief on their department letterhead. Bring the completed waiver form and letter to Chris Carmean.
